However I'm dealing with a pretty bad burn and obvious ripped skin under my brows the day after, which is very noticeable and painful and looks like will take some time to heal, so I will not be returning which is disappointing as I had chosen this salon based on all of their glowing reviews. I called up ahead of my apt and asked if I could use it for my wax that day and they said not to bother purchasing the coupon and that they would uphold the Groupon price for me which they did after explaining this phone call to my beautician, I thought that was really nice of them, so it came to quite a cheap price at the end. One positive part of the experience was that I had found a Groupon voucher online the morning of my appointment. I really wish I had said something while I was there but being in a new country and not knowing how to go about that made me feel somewhat intimidated - I just wanted to leave. I am used to a little redness after an eyebrow wax but this was something different and looked like a bad reaction.

My brows themselves didn't look like they had been touched, but my whole brow area (above and below my brows) was so painful and inflamed. No Scream Cream is an FDA approved topical numbing cream containing 20 benzocaine. It looked and felt like I had a reaction or possible chemical burn from whatever the cream was she put on after the wax. I felt like no hairs were actually getting pulled out, I even had one strip placed high up on my forehead no where near my brows! Once she was done she applied some sort of cream or gel that immediately stung my skin so badly and when I looked in the mirror my brow area was on fire. I didn't get asked if I had any preferences with shape or how I like my brows done, but I did mention before she started that my brows can grow quite long and I assumed she would trim them as that is what I am used to with all other places I had been to.
I felt like the skin under my brow where I didn't have any hairs was being waxed over and over and it felt like the beautician wasn't confident in what she was doing. However the eyebrow wax is where it all came undone for me. The brazilian was fine, no issues with pain or the way it was done. I couldn't catch the name of the beautician as she spoke quite fast, she seemed friendly enough but d idn't seem too interested in the small talk I was putting out there, this may not be important to some but for me, having someone chatty with warm personality puts me at ease when I'm at a salon I haven't been to before.
The salon layout was nice and reasonably tidy. This was my first wax (Brazilian and eye brow wax) since moving overseas to Austin so I was a little nervous before attending as I know each salon/beautician all do things a little differently and it takes time to find someone you like and trust. I'm not one to leave reviews usually but I felt I should after my experience yesterday at Relax and Wax.
